Struggling Arsenal went to Madrid today to play Mighty Real FC in the Champions' League (tournament of all the greatest teams in Europe).  Hampered with numerous injuries and terrible play Arsenal have had difficulties finding goals and wins on the road.  Moreover, the european football community see Arsenal as a minor team in the fish bowl of footy champions.  Arsenal had nothing to lose and everything to play for today.

ARSENAL FUCKING WON....in the classic gooner style One-Nil (that's 1-0 for you non-euros).  Thierry Henry fought off four Madrid defenders to fire home a shot past the keeper two minutes after the second half restart.  Arsenal are the only team from England to play Real in Spain and leave with a victory. They have a tough task in two weeks at home against Madrid again (CL rounds are 2 games - one home, one away). 

Redskins Up, Hokies Down

As a graduate of Virginia Tech, I was pleased when our football team won the Gator Bowl last Monday against Louisville.  After losing not one but two horrible games, games in which the Hokies should have been able to win, the Hokies rebounded to finish the season on a positive note.  If only the news ended at the final whistle...

Marcus Vick, younger brother of Ron Mexico Michael Vick(who attended VA Tech when I was there!), was dismissed from the squad for violating the team's, coach's, fan's, and university's trust and support...again.  Read more about the booting in a letter here by the University President and here by the Head of VT Athletics.

In the span of a week, Prince Marcus went from Starting QB of a top ranked college football team to jail...unbelievable.  What NFL team is going to draft him now?  At least I still have the Redskins...

The Washington Redskins traveled to Tampa Bay last Saturday and fought for old D.C.  in a way that can't be described as ideal.  The Skins offense never showed up; if it wasn't for two key defensive plays...oy...but the Skins prevailed and travel to Seattle next Saturday to face the MVP of the NFC and the Seahawks.

I haven't tasted playoff victory for the Skins since forever and it sure feels nice. Hail.

There's Only One Thierry Henry

This upcoming weekend my favorite football (Eur) squad, Arsenal FC of London, have a huge game against Chel$ea of London.  Chel$ea bought their way to the title last year - they are a Russian billionaire's toy...I defer to Louis for a history of the club as he is #1 fan *rolls eyes* This game could very well save the Arsenal this season in the English Premier League.  If Arsenal lose, they will be 20 points behind with no more title hopes.
