UK band du jour Editors arrived stateside last week for their first official mini tour of the States riding a wave of blogger's hype. Editors are a young British indie band in the vein of the Strokes and Interpol; thier debut release, The Back Room, has done quite well. I'll admit I wasn't expecting much as I made my way through the work day and downtown to the Mercury. the mp3s I had heard, 'Munich' and a couple others, really hadn't proved to me Editors were a band to take notice of or would make a lasting impression. Fortunately I went ahead and secured tickets before they sold out and was 'forced' to go.
Lucky for me I made the right decision. A power set of 9 songs blew the lids of a packed Mercury crowd, me included (Village Indian has a pic of the setlist). Front man Tom Smith even mentioned how glad he was to see the NYC crowd so energized. 'Munich' especially had the room moving - this song is much better live. With a tight rhythm section and catchy songs Editors appear to have a bright future.
I intended to buy the band's album, The Back Room; however the cluster fuck getting out kept me from hitting up the merchandise man. I'll just have to pick up a copy when I am in the band's hometown of Birmingham, England to see my favorite footy team (Arsenal FC) play Birmingham FC February 4th.

He also has the links to watch and/or listen to the band's performance from last week on Morning Eclectic.
