Paddy Casey is the biggest thing in Ireland besides Guinness and U2. His last album went 11x platinum in Ireland (sales exceeding 175,000 copies). He is virtually unknown in the United States...but that could change in 2008 with the US release of his album, Addicted To Company (Part I).
A couple weeks ago I hit up a private showcase for Paddy at the Spotted Pig in the West Village. This restaurant is a traditional gastro-pub and frequent celeb hangout. The show was in a cozy space on the third floor. He played about 20 minutes, 6 or so songs (all from the new album), all acoustic with Fiona Maladay on keys and backing vocals. I really enjoyed the acoustic versions of his album (listen to a couple tracks here). Too bad he didn't play some of the songs he covers (including "No Diggity," "Hey Ya," and more).
Look for Addicted To Company (Pt 1) out on Victor Records April 1.
