I was super stoked to see my first Allman Brothers show. Saturday night at the Beacon, four nights into their annual Spring run at the Upper West Side venue, the energy was explosive and the jams were solid through both sets and encore.
I have passed up a number of chances to see the Bros - not really sure why I never went. The current lineup pays homage to and definitely lives up to the memory of founding Brother, Duane Allman. Bolstered by his brother Gregg, the current group is an allstar lineup of sick ass musicians: Warren Haynes and the AMAZINGLY FANTASTICAL Derek Trucks on guitar and former Rescue Unit member Oteil Burbridge on bass. They have to be the best jamband bar none currently touring talent-wise. And the solos....they actually have a point. No wayward noodling here.

Did I mention the "Whipping Post" encore?
