I did not expect to be at the Foo Fighters show this past Monday at the Beacon Theater. I actually kind of forgot about it until I got asked if I wanted to go....and so I went.
The Foos are doing a mini acoustic tour backed by former Nirvana guest / Foo Fighter Pat Smear on Guitar, Petra Haden on Violin, Rami Jaffee on Keyboards,
Drew Hester on percussion. All were seated for this hushed yet rowdy show. The crowd begged Dave Grohl to beg them to stand up and rock out.
The band played a mix of songs spanning their entire 10 year career. The highlights were of course the reworked hits like "My Hero" (which was especially good), "Times Like These", and "Everlong" (sick). I was stoked to see amazingly awesome photographer harmonica player Danny Clinch make a guest appearance during one song for a solo. Dave mentioned Clinch is with them taking pics and getting footage of the acoustic tour. I am pretty sure I heard him say they were recording the show as well.
Before playing "Friend of A Friend" as the second song of the encore Dave talked in depth about the song's origin. He wrote this song while sharing a house with Kurt and Krist in Olympia, Washington during the infancy of Nirvana.
Bummer of the night was the code red gustapo level of the "aisle clerks". I almost was kicked out for using my camera....and was made to erase my memory stick.
Bob Dylan agrees that Foo Acoustic is goodness for the ears and will take them on part of his upcoming tour supporting his new album. FF will be on tour from October 29th to Nov 8th with the Kings of Leon and the Raconteurs picking up the remainder of Dylan's dates.
