Thank Jah! - Happy Friday y'all....today's TJIF selection comes from one of my favorite artists, Peter Tosh. Most people associate Peter with one song in addition to his duties as part of 'Bob Marley's Band, the Wailers'. Pete Tosh is a brilliant songwriter in his own right. It is extremely unfortunate how his time on earth came to an end.
Known as a fiery and confrontational person, Tosh also had a soft spot for his friends. In 1987 Tosh took into his home an old friend from his days with the Wailers. In addition to giving Dennis Loban a roof over his head Loban was given Peter's bed to sleep on. On September 11th, 1987 Tosh was hanging in his home when Loban and two others burst through the door armed with guns. Tosh died from a gunshot wound to the head. Reggae's Honorary Citizen will continue to live as long as his songs continue to play.
From 1976's 'Mama Africa', a classic Tosh song: "Maga Dog"
All you Tosh fans out there need to get a hold of the Live & Dangerous: Boston 1976 cd if you don't already have it. Nuff fire!
