British Sea Power continued their trek through NYC Sunday night.  They played a ferociously good set at The Music Hall of Williamsburg.  I've really been digging most of their 2008 release, Do You Like Rock Music?.  The album was on showcase throughout their set.  Yes, I like rock music and British Sea Power's version is pretty good.

I last saw the second band, The Rosebuds, back in the fall during CMJ.  I don't remember much from that show, neither good nor bad, but was pleasantly surprised by how tight their set was last night.

Jeffrey Lewis opened the night with his Daniel Johnston esque persona; from the music to the cartoons and drawings, Lewis is like a sane Johnston....but younger....and drinks less Mountain Dew.  Really enjoyed his short documentary on Rough Trade, "Creeping Death" cartoon not so much.  Interesting lyrics, not the best voice though.

A new camera and the wrong type of converter (plus an upcoming wedding...mine) severely hampered my posting of CMJ pics and reviews this week.  Sucks getting this up so late but I guess better late than never.

I kicked off CMJ Tuesday night at the Bowery Ballroom at Brooklyn Vegan's Official CMJ Showcase.  Leading up to the night I was most excited to see Miracle Fortress for the first time.  Then this happened.  But the show must - and did - go on.

Canadian band The Most Serene Republic were  for me the highlight of the night; their sound brought a smile to my face and some pep in my step.  Bon Iver was mesmerizing.  Shaky Hands was...well...shaky.   Rosebuds did their dancey rock vibe thing; that was kind cool.  Dean & Britta....Britta....Britta....see pic above....Britta.  Rounding out the night was Voxtrot.  First time catching them; really enjoyed the set.

Stereogum has a good review some pics.
